August 9. Our librarian, H, saw me flipping through the pages of Buy and Sell magazine. I looked so immersed in what I was doing that she could'nt help but ask.
H: Ano bang hinahanap mo?
Me: Trabaho.
H: Trabaho?
Me: Yup, extra work.
H: Bakit, eh may work ka na naman?
Me: Siyempre para may extra income ako.
H: Haay, tumatanda ka na, Bea.
(Ganun ba 'yun?)
August 11. I noticed a lot of new faces in the office–new and young faces. "Batch 2005 po ako. Ako po, batch 2006." These were the answers I got when I asked them kung kailan sila nag-graduate. When they asked me, "Ikaw, Ate, anong batch ka?" Parang hindi na ako makasagot
(Was I afraid to tell the truth? ahahaha)
August 12. My sister was teasing me because my bottle of moisturiser and toner were empty and I was threatening to brave the rains only to buy replacements. "Ate, since when have you been so concerned about your face? Matatanda lang ang ganun."
(Meaning, matanda na ako?
)
August 14. It was already half past 2 and I've only accomplished about three-fourth of the things in my "To Do" list so I was beginning to get tensed. I knew the editors and consultants would be waiting for the proofs within the day. To relax my panicky veins, I opened iTunes and started playing Sitti's version of At 17. When one of the managers entered the room, sabi niya "Uy, pang-oldies yan ah"
(Meaning, oldie na ako?
)
This morning: I was talking to my 5-year-old nephew, J, over the phone.
Me: Punta ka Manila. Ipapasyal kita sa zoo.
J: Ayaw ko sa Manila, Tita.
Me:Bakit naman? Ako gusto ko dito sa Manila.
J: Syempre, Tita, matanda ka na eh. (*Ouch*)
(Hmnnn, for-adults-only lang pala ang Manila hehehehe)
