Talking to experienced preschool and primary grade teachers is fun. Here's a story from one of my friends, Ma'am N, who had taught grade 1 pupils for over 20 years.
One day, ten years ago, while she was preparing her lesson plan for Sibika at Kultura (Civics and Culture) for the next day's class, she was informed by the principal that the district supervisor was going to observe her class. Wanting to impress the supervisor, she decided to come up with a unique springboard activity. She got several Teacher's Guides from the library to get some ideas. After a few hours of reading the guides, she finally found a springboard activity suited to her new lesson. But she almost fainted when she read the first procedure of the activity:
PATAYIN muna ang ilang mag-aaral sa harap ng klase.
(Kill first some pupils in front of the class.)
Obviously, it was a typographical error. What the procedure actually meant was this:
PATAYUIN muna ang ilang bata sa harap ng klase.
(Let some pupils stand first in front of the class.)
Amazing what a single letter can do. It can save lives hehehehehe
