“friendsterless”

Last night, I got a call from a friend I haven't heard from for many months. She just came from a vacation spent abroad. Before our conversation ended, we've agreed to continue communicating.

A:   Do you have a friendster account?
Me: No, I don't have one.
A:   Whaaaat? I think you're the only person in this world who doesn't have a friendster account!
Me: So what?
A:   Why don't you get one? In this www.com age, it's easy to have friends and keep track of them through Friendster.
Me: I don't think I need one.
A:   Why is that so?
Me: First, my blog is enough. Second, I stay most of the time in the office and it's just inappropriate for me to be doing Friendster while at work. Third, I have lots of work and I don't have time for it. Fourth, I think I am old enough for it.
A: So you really feel okay with being "friendsterless."
Me: I don't find any reason not to be okay with it. It's okay for me to be "friendsterless." What's not okay with me is to be friendless. I have friends anyway, even without friendster.
A: Okay, I rest my case. Just give me your email na lang.

I was smiling at the other end of the line.

I deactivated my friendster account early this year. It didn’t really help much in connecting with friends. Parang nagpaparamihan lang ng “friends” dun sa list eh.. and yes, our friends can always reach us through email, no need for friendster!

Tita Bea,

I wish I could post my friendster pics here. Nope not those pics. It’s a friendster pic that I will email to you. What it shows is that the Philippines tops the list of friendster users. The 2nd pic I am sending you is that, the top users in the world are in Manila, Makati, Quezon City and Pasig, in that order. It’s almost everyone in the Philippines have their own friendster. So, join ka na!!
