Valentine's day is in the air. While reading the papers this morning, I noticed the following advertisements. A cellular phone company is offering special discounts for people who apply for a postpaid account. SM malls devoted a whole page ad enumerating its various activities: dating games, souvenir photo opportunities, Valentine make-over sessions and musical presentations. A well known jewelry company is offering up to 70 per cent discount on selected jewelries. All of these are happening this February.
Some of my friends in the office are already preparing for their children’s prom day. Last weekend, some of them have gone to the malls to buy ready-made dresses. Some opted to buy textile from Divisoria. Some have scanned the boutiques. They are looking for cheap prom dresses. As one of my officemates puts it, “Bakit pa bibili ng sobrang mahal eh pwede namang mas mura? Saka isang beses lang naman isusuot.” I agree. At this time when prices of goods are constantly rising, it is not wise to spend much when you can buy something that’s cheaper.
Thirteen more days to go before Valentine’s day. While some establishments are busy with their Valentine-related activities and some parents are busy preparing for their children’s prom, I am also busy……wondering if I’d receive a bunch of flowers from *tooot-tooot* on that day :)
