When a local channel started showing the series, "The Swan," I've read various reviews of the show in the local papers. Out of curiosity, I managed to watch a few episodes.

"The Swan" is a plastic surgery series which features women who are courageous enough to go under the knife to enhance their physical features. Each week, there are two participants and one of them has a chance to advance to the "Swan Beauty Pageant." That is correct. The show is also a beauty pageant. At the end of the season, a participant is finally chosen to become the "Swan."

I have also watched other plastic surgery reality shows out of sheer curiosity. It is fascinating how the plastic surgery technology has evolved. Plastic surgery, indeed, is a very dynamic industry. It has boosted the careers of specialists, like cosmetic dentists and the Houston cosmetic surgeon. Today, more and more women are willing to endure the pains and face the risks of going under the knife if only to turn into "swans," beautiful and confident. As an example, I have read that the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that in 2006 nearly 11 million plastic surgeries were performed in the United States alone. I wonder how the statistics will turn out if surgeries done in Thailand is added.

I am a self-proclaimed "ugly duckling." But I guess I'd rather stay that way. I'm not ready yet to become a swan, simply because I'm afraid of needles heheh.
