More than a year ago, some friends of mine launched their project, Filipiniana.net, a free online repository of resources pertaining to Philippine studies. Since then, it has been giving away, arcane, unpublished or out-of-print materials in the English, Spanish or Filipino languages. I've recommended the site to my nieces who have been raised abroad so they can have a glimpse of the heritage and culture of their roots.
Tomorrow, the people behind Filipiniana.net will be formally presenting to the public another big project: the WikiPilipinas.org website. The launch will be held during the Manila International Bookfair at the World Trade Center. WikiPilipinas.org is primarily a free online encyclopedia, online Philippine directory, almanac of lists and records, and a portal for different communities and groups. Its biggest article collections are the Who's Who of the Philippines, Philippine Geographical Gazetter, Philippine Cultural Encyclopedia, Philippine Historical Encyclopedia, Philippine TV and Movie Database, Pinoy Komiks Database, Philippine Almanac of Lists, Philippine Websites Database, Philippine Writers Database, Philippine Sports Almanac, Filipino First Almanac, Philippine Photography Knowledgebase and more. And the fun thing about it is that it is modeled after Wikipedia which gives the users the right and the permission to post and modify the website's content.
